So, you've finally booked your venue, and they start throwing Business Cards at you! "Here's a Photographer we highly recommend (or a florist or a DJ)." Some venues may call them the "House DJ or House Photographer". I know something you don't about House Vendors...

The venue may never have worked with the House (preferred) Vendor!

I own a DJ Company (Starry Nite DJs) and I am flooded with calls from Wedding Venues to become a Preferred Vendor. They want my money! For a YEARLY FEE I can get into their House Book, and I'm promised to be recommended to every bride who walks through their door! Did I tell you that it doesn't matter if they've ever seen my party? I pay them, they recommend me to YOU (maybe without even seeing me in action!), the bride who has poured her heart into planning the Special Day.

Like EVERY wedding vendor you hire, ask for Tons of Great CHECKABLE Referrals/Testimonials, and Check Them! Brides who have used the vendor are your best friends, if they loved him/her.

AND make sure the Referrals are for the guy who's Actually Playing your Wedding (not just company referrals!).

You have the right to refuse the House Vendors at any venue, and get a discount off the Package. Also, I've played weddings at places where the staff thought I was great, hated the House DJ, but had to recommend ONLY HIM because he paid the house!
