I'll be brief. Today I saw on
a Wedding site that a bride-to-be was concerned about my actions. She had
initially contacted me for a certain wedding date. We spoke, and I asked her to
please get back to me soon, to set a date to meet, so she could get to know me
bettter. 3 weeks later she emailed me to tell me she had found another DJ. I
replied that someone else had booked the date.
The reponse all over the
Wedding Site was, "How can I book the date without first holding it for her!".
The answer is, she showed no sign of commitment, nor real interest (setting a
date to meet me), and it's always First Come - First Serve. Other brides-to-be
on the site called this unprofessional, and soon this whole thing developed, as
if ALL Wedding Vendors are rotten good for nothings trying to prey on
brides.
I don't. If I sit with a bride
personally, I tell her that I will call her if she hasn't decided, but someone
else wants the date. That's Fair. It's not a Car Sales Tactic for me - I really
care, if the bride is serious. But I run a Business, a sucessful business, and I
must take the bookings as they come. That's Fair. I've been caught waiting
before, and lost BOTH bookings.
How can you tell if a Vendor
is upstanding? It's hard, because there are so many corrupt Wedding Vendors out
there. I know who they are. Not all are bad, but many. Read some of the articles
on my site for horror stories about them.
But you don't stay in
Business, with impeccable Reviews and Brides who would go to the wall for you to
defend you (as one did on the Wedding Website) if there's a hint of problems.
That gets around very quickly.
And that's the answer. Check
for impeccable references from current Brides who have used the Vendor, then Sit
with him. Don't go by hearsay. Hearsay can cost you a great wedding, and hurt a
man's business. Sit with him, and you'll tell immediately that he cares for you,
and will help you have a Great Wedding.
